Our school has 168 students registered from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 with a staff of 12 teachers, educational assistants, office personnel and custodial staff.  We are a caring community employing the Tribes philosophy to reach our goal of a learning community which is respectful, safe and inclusive of all of our members.  This includes our parents, who support our school through our Parent Group/ School Council called “Accents to Aberarder.”

Accents to Aberarder organize fundraisers and have developed relationships with corporate friends in Sarnia’s Chemical Valley.  These fundraisers and monetary gifts have allowed us to purchase Smartboards for all of our classrooms, plus additional technology to complement classroom setups.  From laptops to Smart Cameras and Clickers, we are able meet the needs of our technological society, preparing our students for life after Aberarder.

Each year our school competes in athletic events within the North Lambton family of schools.  Traditional strengths include Cross Country running, Track and Field, Basketball, Soccer and Volleyball.  Although smaller than most of our neighbours, we compete successfully in head to head action each year!  Our school also runs a full slate of extracurricular activities, focused on the arts as well as athletics.

Aberarder has shown growth with our performance in provincial assessments.  A part of our website is dedicated to EQAO performance, so please check out our numbers.  Our school improvement goals for this year are:

¦     To increase the number of students achieving levels 3 in Reading, in grade 3 (76) by 4%. and grade 6 (71) by 7%, as measured in EQAO in June 2010

¦     To increase the number of students achieving level 3 in Writing, in grade 3 (53) by 7% and grade 6 (50) by 7%, as measured in EQAO in June 2010

Staff participates regularly in professional development activities which focus on improved learning opportunities for our diverse population.

We are proud of our traditions at Aberarder.  Our annual Christmas Dinner and Christmas Concert are a highlight of our December calendar.  Our philanthropic contributions are also noteworthy: last year we raised in excess of $4000.00 for Terry Fox Cancer Research and over $7000.00 for Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation.  In addition our school honours our Armed Forces by taking active part in the Royal Canadian Legion’s Poster and Essay contest, with over 1/3 of our students participating with entries.  As well we remember our veterans with an assembly on November 11.   We are proud to have members of our extended Aberarder family participating with our Armed Forces overseas.

We hope you find our school site helpful.  Our doors are always open to friends and new community members.  Please stop in should you have questions.  We would like to show you what makes our school special.

Once again, welcome!
