Accents to Aberarder: You may have heard our rather unique name before…… Every so often, you receive a yellow newsletter in your child’s backpack…… Didn’t someone serve me a burger from that group? Oh yeah, don’t they do fundraising? Accents to Aberarder, what exactly is it all about? Did you know that Accents is not only a support group for our school, but also the school’s Council? We have the privilege of representing our school with the goal of enhancing student success in our school and community. Our group encourages parents to actively participate in the education of their children and act as a resource to the school’s principal. We also allow viewpoints of parents and community members to be heard. Yes, we definitely do fundraising, with the money collected going towards worthwhile projects in our school to enrich your child’s educational experience. We’ve been involved in many projects over the years. The trees planted around the perimeter of the school that act as a windbreak, was one of Accent’s first projects. We’ve been involved in gym and playground equipment, resources for teachers, electronic items, risers for choir productions, and most recently smartboard technology to name a few. We also fund the busing for many of the students bus trips. We are always in need of your input in regards to our fundraisers, and welcome it; fresh ideas are important and we are happy to hear them. We volunteer in many ways within our school, organizing volunteer groups for cross-country, helping out with the lunch and milk program, organizing the open house barbecue as well as the teacher appreciation dinner. We are an active part of Gr. 8 graduation and help out on play days and track and field events at the school. As the school’s council, we also get to hear from our principal on current issues in our educational system and can give our input. It’s interesting and informative to hear what’s going on and to understand more about why and how things are done. Accents gives you, the parent/guardian the opportunity to be involved in your children’s educational experience and to have a say in it. It gives you a real feeling of satisfaction to see an idea become reality and know you were part of it.
